Starting a new term at school is such an exciting time, isn’t it? The kids are excited to start a new chapter in their lives and be somewhere other than home all day - and we’re just excited for the house to be clean for longer than two seconds! 


Still, parents are sure to miss the little ones when they start school - so we’d better make the most of them! Here are 50 things to do before your child starts their first year of school. 


  1. Pitch up a tent and camp in the backyard.
  2. Feed the ducks at the local park. 
  3. Make your own dress bear!
  4. Go to the supermarket and buy a treat for the family. 
  5. Hike with friends and family. 
  6. Pack up a picnic and eat it in the sun.
  7. Find a Pick Your Own and bring fresh veggies home. 
  8. Draw your favourite things.
  9. Visit a planetarium and learn about space. 
  10. Make your own snow cones with crushed ice and squash.
  11. Make mud pies (extra points for any with worms in!).
